THE GLAMOUR OF ITALIAN FASHION 1945-2014

FROM RUBBLE TO RITZ

The V&A are proud to present "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014": an exhibition in honour of fashion in Italy and how it transformed from the aftermath of The Second World War, to the serenity and glamour it is renowned for today.
The tale is told through displaying key pieces from leading Italian fashion designers that showed in Florence during the 1950s, at a Sala Bianca runway. This includes the ankle boot by Dolce and Gabbana. The boot is heavy in embellishment with jewels encrusted upon white and pink embroidery from the point of the toe to the finishing height of the shoe. The pair are completed by a gold adornment and a classic black, leather stiletto heel.

Alongside is jewelery by Bulgari, such as the short diamond-gem necklace worn by Elizabeth Taylor; matched with an exaggerated headdress rich in flower detailing.

As Hollywood films were escalating during the 1950s ,actresses like Elizabeth Taylor and the likes of Audrey Hepburn were held responsible for the growth of Italian fashion for starring in films located in Italy. This is through to the on-screen beauty and style that they promote, making it irresistible for viewers to want in on the Italian glamour.
